Systems is seeking a Staff System Safety Engineer to join our team
of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in
Melbourne, FL. . The successful candidate will be proficient in
aircraft systems and operations as well as expert in hazard
analysis techniques for System Safety. This position will provide
mentorship and partner with team members to manage and complete
safety tasking to include analyzing architecture, design, software
integration, and development and maintenance of cutting-edge Open
Architecture systems on the U. S. Navys E-2D Advance Hawkeye
aircraft. You will apply engineering principles to optimize all
aspects of safety to increase the operational effectiveness
throughout the lifecycle of the system. The ideal candidate will
understand modern programming languages, software requirements and
design patterns, and development platforms and should have an
interest in expanding their understanding of avionics software
development and systems integration methodologies. In this role,
your responsibilities will include but are not limited to the
following: Analyze, recommend, and drive safety criteria in system
design, equipment, and procedures to mitigate or eliminate hazards
Perform technical planning, system integration, verification and
validation, and cost, risk, and supportability analyses at all
levels of the system life cycle Apply engineering principles and
standards to support, develop, or review System/Subsystem Hazard
Analyses, Software System Safety Analyses, Functional Hazard
Analyses, and Failure Modes Effects & Criticality Analyses;
Develop, review, update, and approve system safety artifacts and
system safety requirements; Identify technical issues, propose
solutions, and ensure appropriate action is taken to resolve the
technical issues; Participate in various system safety meetings
with both internal and external stakeholders. Develop and maintain
all necessary documentation necessary to implement and maintain a
System Safety Program. Basic Qualifications: Bachelor of science
Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics)
and 14 years of experience, or Master of Science Degree in a STEM
field with 12 years of experience, or Ph.D. and 9 years of
experience Experience in Aviation Systems, Electrical Engineering,
or Hardware/Software System Safety. Experience in Development
environments applying MIL-STD-882 System Safety program execution.
System safety analytical experience assessing systems/subsystems,
identifying safety hazards, and recommending safety requirements to
system design and operations to mitigate safety risks. Experience
developing safety documents as required in support of customer
requirements. Fundamental knowledge of principles of system safety
engineering including the capability to develop: System Safety
Program Plans (SSPP), Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA),
System/Subsystem Hazard Analysis (SHA), Functional Hazard Analysis
(FHA), and Software System Safety Analysis. Knowledge of
engineering drawings and ability to read schematics and parts
lists. Must have an active DoD Secret clearance or higher (with a
background investigation completed within the last 6 years or
currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation) Must have the
ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP)
clearance. Preferred Qualifications: Capable of understanding
incident investigations and root cause and corrective actions
Understanding of Model Based System Engineering and executing
System Safety Analysis in MBSE tools Experience using Cameo to
capture System Safety products and execute Safety analysis
Proficient in the use of MS Office applications (example, Excel and
PowerPoint) Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication
skillsSalary Range: $142,500 - $213,700The above salary range
represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers
a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the
scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's
experience, education, skills and current market
conditions.Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in
addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward
individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in
company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions
may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop
