Your Role: What you'll be doing

ULA's facility in Cape Canaveral, FL has an opening for a Labor Relations Specialist! This role serves as the site's labor relations representative and is the primary human resources point of contact for all local IAMAW union-represented employees and their ULA leaders. This role works closely with site leadership and union representatives to influence and foster a collaborative and productive labor-management relationship.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Handles routine labor relations and human resource inquiries related to company policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreements
  • Administers the collective bargaining agreement and advises management on contract interpretation and application
  • Regularly and pro-actively meets with union representatives, using effective communication and negotiation skills to mutually find creative and effective solutions to disputes and workplace issues
  • Manages the grievance process, including intake and tracking, conducting grievance and fact-finding meetings, consulting with management, determining the validity of grievances, and formulating/preparing grievance responses
  • Advises management on disciplinary procedures and recommends corrective action
  • Schedules and facilitates labor-management meetings
  • Participates in subcontract committee meetings
  • Calculates compensation offers for new hourly employees, factoring in experience and internal equity
  • Maintains and updates seniority lists; provides reports to the union on a regular basis
  • Posts job opportunities (promotions, reclassifications, travel opportunities) and processes responses
  • Collaborates with leadership and legal in preparation for arbitrations; may also provide testimony or draft settlement agreements
  • Drafts proposals, processes, and/or site-specific agreements between the union and company
  • Ensures that company initiatives and policies are consistent with union agreements
  • Mentors and trains front-line leaders and management on the collective bargaining agreement and effective labor relations
  • Assists with preparation of documents and records required for contract negotiations and responding to information requests
  • Coordinates and executes layoff and/or recall activities, when applicable, ensuring compliance with the collective bargaining agreement and seniority provisions
  • Conducts exit interviews and out-processing, and other interviews/research related to labor disputes/negotiations
  • Assists site management with staffing activities
  • Processes reasonable accommodation requests
  • Maintains current knowledge and understanding of laws and regulations related to EEO, affirmative action, collective bargaining, unions, labor relations, and human resources
  • Assists with preparation and dissemination of plans, policies, documents, and reports which may include EEO-1, affirmative action plans, organizational charts, labor agreements, policy updates and employee communications
  • Partners with other functional groups, including Ethics, ULA Medical, Legal and Security
  • Occasional overnight travel may be required
  • Performs other duties as assigned

      Your Background: What skills you'll need

      NOTE: As a condition of employment, you must be able to obtain and thereafter maintain a minimum of a Secret Clearance; therefore, all applicants must be a U.S. Citizen within the meaning of ITAR.

      Education and Experience:
      • Bachelor's degree in human resources, labor relations, business, accounting, or related field required
      • At least 6-10 years of professional human resource administration required with a minimum of 3 years of direct experience in labor relations.
        Required skills and abilities:
        • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including presentation skills
        • Experience influencing and communicating with all levels of an organization
        • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
        • Excellent time management skills with the proven ability to be pro-active, prioritize complex issues and meet deadlines
        • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
        • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive and proprietary information
        • Thorough understanding of federal, state and local laws, regulations, and guidelines related to employment and human resources
        • Possesses experience in a variety of human resources subjects
        • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
        • Proficient with Excel; knowledge of pivot tables preferred
        • Proficient using an HRIS; with Success Factors preferred
