Critical Frequency Design's Microwave Photonic, Free Space Optics and Open Systems products are being brought to the market by experienced business leaders and world-renowned scientists in a creative and agile environment. The company is a rapidly growing engineering business located on the Space Coast in Melbourne, FL.Critical Frequency Design is looking for a Photonic Integrated Circuit (PIC) designer to join our team to develop state-of-the-art PICs for our Free Space Optical and Microwave Photonic products.Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Defining and designing overall PIC development plans based on system requirements
  • Assessing PIC foundry and other facility fabrication capabilities and technology platforms
  • Identifying development risks and mitigation strategies
  • Using Photonic Design Automation (PDA) tools to design, simulate, optimize, and layout (i.e. GDS file creation) photonic components and circuits for fabrication and testing
  • Working with semiconductor fabrication specialists to advance PIC performance via component-specific process development
  • Overseeing and directing PIC characterization and testing
  • Working across disciplines to ensure adoption of qualifiable designs with scalable manufacturing processes QualificationsYou must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.Education Requirement:
    • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Photonic Science, or PhysicsMinimum Qualifications:
      • 3+ years of experience in photonic device physics, including lasers, modulators, filters, photodetectors, and passive structures
      • 3+ years of experience in designing, simulating, taping out, and testing photonic integrated circuits
      • Demonstrated understanding of photonic component and circuit design requirements and measurements, such as optical linewidth, relative intensity noise, optical and electrical bandwidth, insertion loss, modulation efficiency, modulation and polarization extinction ratio, polarization dependent loss, coupling ratio, isolation, optical and electrical return loss, spectral responsivity, optical and electrical noise figure, etc.
      • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
      • Strong technical communication skillsPreferred Qualifications:
        • PhD in Electrical Engineering, Photonic Science, or Physics
        • 3+ years of industry experience
        • Extensive experience working within the silicon photonics technology platform
        • Knowledge of fabrication process variables, constraints, and limitations
        • Domain knowledge of emerging applications in photonics, including non-mechanical beam steering, free-space optical communications, light detection and ranging, microwave photonics, photonic signal processing, quantum photonics, etc.Equal Opportunity StatementCritical Frequency Design LLC is committed to the principles of equal employment.
