The Electro Optical Infrared Systems (EOIS) line of business within DRS has locations in Dallas, TX, Melbourne, FL, and Cypress, CA. Job Summary

DRS Network & Imaging Systems, LLC is seeking a Principal Additive Manufacturing Engineer to join our team. Additive Manufacturing (AM) Technology Champion for EOIS Business Unit focused on developing precision opto-mechanical components and products using AM techniques. Examples include optical assemblies, IR & visible sights and electronics packaging mainly for military applications. The Mechanical Engineer will develop, document and support testing of products, systems or subsystems focused on evolving AM technologies across the business. This role has the opportunity to be based out of Melbourne, FL, Dallas, TX, or Cypress, CA.

Job Responsibilities

Actively lead the roadmap and strategy for the Additive Manufacturing technology area

Evaluate and recommend AM design approaches to meet performance requirements for new or improved products

Investigate AM solutions to product or process problems

Develop AM prototypes to retire key development risks

Collaborate with Engineering and Manufacturing disciplines on product development

Provide budget, cost and schedule input for assignments

Participate in and conduct peer reviews and formal design reviews

Participate in preparation of proposals

Support testing of products

Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization

Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field and at least eight (8) or more years of experience
  • 5+ years of experience in leading Additive Manufacturing design and development
  • 3D CAD experience, Pro-e/Creo preferred
  • Strong customer focus, both internal and external
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to solve complex problems
  • Work effectively as a member of a team and as the team lead
  • Ability to meet aggressive timelines
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to decipher highly technical data
  • Ability to multi-task in an evolving project environment
  • Ability to lead and direct the activities of less experienced engineers
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience with EO/IR technology and products desired
  • Precision mechanical, opto-mechanical and electronics packaging design or manufacturing experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of GD&T principles preferred
  • Hands-on mechanical assembly experience preferred (professional or hobby)
  • Machine shop or equivalent experience preferred (professional or hobby)
  • Design for military or space requirements preferred
