salaried position starting at $21.66/hour. The City of Cocoa Beach

JOBUnder general supervision, performs advanced accounting work
primarily related to the maintaining various general ledger and
budgetary accounts with a strong emphasis on payroll and payroll
related areas. Work also involves preparing, printing, and
balancing selected accounts monthly. Duties assigned to employees
in the position may vary according to the specific needs of the
department and/or allocation of Accountants. Considerable
independent judgment and initiative are required in performing
assigned duties. Tact, courtesy, and firmness are required in
dealing with customers and the public. Reports to the City
Controller/Deputy CFO.SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*
Maintain payroll deductions, deferrals, and withholdings for all
employees* Manage year-end employee W-2 and employer ACA reporting*
Perform benefits review, process invoices for payment and
reconciliations* Gathering and reviewing information on hours
worked for each employee* Calculating the correct amount
incorporating overtime, deductions, bonuses etc. with assistance of
a computer system* Focus on efficiency, accuracy, and the ability
to meet hard deadlines, outstanding organizational ability with a
high attention to detail* Ability to keep sensitive/confidential
information secure* Prepare payroll reports, process (payroll
benefit) invoices for payments, prepare tax reports/information*
Reconciliation and analysis of benefits/statementsEssential Job
Functions:* Works closely with city departments to ensure accuracy
and timeliness of bi-weekly payroll processing and reporting.*
Controls the preparation of journal entries as required to record
monthly transactions and corrections. Confirms all transactions are
posted correctly prior to monthly closing of general ledger and
performs all necessary functions related to closing. This includes
balancing, distributing monthly reports to department heads, as
well as preparing monthly general ledgers.* Reconciles and
maintains subsidiary ledgers as necessary. Prepares high level
account analysis on selected accounts, using electronic
spreadsheets. Assists supervisor will special projects as needed,
including the annual audit and preparation of the Annual
Comprehensive Financial Report. Applies knowledge of computer
applications to automate and streamline any tasks assigned.*
Reviews and monitors all travel-related expense reports to ensure
compliance with Florida Statutes, City ordinances and policies, and
makes recommendations as necessary. Reviews all petty cash
transactions city-wide and makes recommendations as necessary to
comply with City ordinances and policies.* Prepares periodic
financial and statistical statements, summaries, and reports from
accounting records. Projects and analyzes anticipated expenditures
and revenue for current and future projects. Compiles data used in
budget preparation and assists in preparing budgets.* Reviews,
interprets, and applies governmental accounting principles and
practices. Provides internal control for the signing of checks and
whenever there is a custodian change for petty cash and fixed
assets. Assists other Accountants/Account Specialists with accounts
payable, cash receipts, utility billing, as needed or required.
Performs other related work as
required.?????????????????????MINIMUM TRAINING AND
EXPERIENCEGraduation from accredited college or university with
bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or Human
Resources. Computer spreadsheet and word processing training or
equivalent experience.
