The Clinical Nurse Educator is responsible to the assigned rating and approving supervisors and is accountable to the Associate Director of Patient Care Services. The Clinical Nurse Educator is a registered professional nurse who provides formal, informal, and virtual instruction for nurse clinicians, support staff, patients, families, and the community in support of medical center clinical and/or administrative operations. The Clinical Nurse Educator collaborates with multiple disciplines in the assessment, planning, organization, implementation, and evaluation of an effective program including orientation, continuing education, and in-services. They support other duties including the Veterans Affairs Learning Opportunities Residency Program (VALOR), Registered Nurse Transition to Practice Program (RNTTP), Office of Academic Affiliations (OAA) residency programs, scholarship programs, American Nurses Credentialing Center Continuing Nursing Education (ANCC CNE), assisting with preceptorships, and the support of any additional nursing programs. The Nurse Educator assesses the learning needs of others and plans/organizes educational activities and goals, develops written plans for educational programs in compliance with accrediting agency policies and procedures, and implements plans utilizing adult learning principles. They evaluate educational outcomes and develop a plan for follow-up education as indicated. The Clinical Nurse Educator demonstrates leadership by involving others in clinical and educational activities or processes directed at improving patient care. The Clinical Nurse Educator has a global understanding of how their area(s) of responsibility supports the system's mission and vision. They are responsible and accountable for the planning, organization, and evaluation of effectiveness related to clinical, informatics, and/or administrative process changes, analyzing issues impeding change, developing corrective actions to expedite change, and assuring optimum utilization of available resources to maintain a climate conducive to quality patient care and employee satisfaction. The Clinical Nurse Educator functions as a formal and informal educator; serving as a liaison between internal and external customers, supporting factors that impact customer satisfaction, considering the client population, including age and life stages, state of health, race and culture, values, and previous experiences. They influence care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team. The Nurse Educator will be engaged in the teaching, mentoring, promoting, and facilitating optimal nursing practice within the healthcare system. He/She should be prepared to provide evidence-based education, in-services, needs assessments and evaluation of both current and new staff. He/she will design, promote, and support activities that foster competence, critical thinking, decision making, and compliance with The Joint Commission, VHA and Orlando VA Healthcare policies. The Nurse Educator will possess organizational skills that will enable the completion of assigned work in a timely manner, demonstrate exceptional leadership and initiative, and the ability to establish and maintain effective communication and collaborative relationships. Expected to travel between all sites of care within Orlando VA Medical Center when needed. Work Schedule: Full-time, primarily be Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with workday/hours flexibility required as administrative and/or clinical demands require.
