Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for an Aeronautical Engineering Manager 3 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Vehicle Engineering directorate as a Flight Sciences Department Manager. This leadership role is located in Melbourne, Florida.

The Flight Sciences Department Manager, partnered with the Vehicle Engineering functional homeroom team, will be responsible for technical and functional guidance of a Flight Sciences department and will assume ultimate responsibility and accountability for its success. The position will manage engineers across multiple disciplines, including Aerodynamics, Vehicle Performance, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Configuration Design, Propulsion, Mass Properties, Loads & Dynamics, and Guidance Navigation & Control (GNC).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing leadership and management for a Flight Sciences team (multiple disciplines) of approximately 100 engineers, including 8 frontline section managers
  • Coordinating with programs for staffing needs and fulfillment (hiring or internal movement), recruiting, preparing performance reviews, timecard approval, career development and department technical oversight, leading member performance (including engagement strategies for strong performers and corrective actions for lower performers)
  • Coordinating appropriate staffing/re-deploy actions are developed and executed to meet multiple division / program commitments
  • Assisting with the development and maintenance of Flight Sciences tools, processes and procedures
  • Ensuring team members are familiar with and use engineering processes and tools properly
  • Participating in Independent Review Teams, Staffing Review Boards, Basis of Estimate reviews and other various Programmatic initiatives and Sector initiatives
  • Work with Human Resources to mediate and resolve personnel issues
  • Champion continuous improvement within the organization, to achieve competitive advantage for the division and sector

    Basic Qualifications:
    • Must have a Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline AND 14 years of related professional/military engineering experience demonstrating the ability to plan, estimate, organize, integrate, and lead technical activities, OR a Master's degree in a STEM discipline AND 12 years of related professional/military engineering experience demonstrating the ability to plan, estimate, organize, integrate, and lead technical activities.
    • Must have experience in one or more Flight Sciences discipline: Aerodynamics, Vehicle Performance, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Configuration Design, Propulsion, Mass Properties, Loads & Dynamics, and/or Guidance Navigation & Control (GNC)
    • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance prior to the commencement of employment.
    • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance. Preferred Qualifications:
      • Bachelor (or higher) of Science in Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
      • Demonstrated mentoring and coaching skills
      • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all levels of employees and management
      • Prior Functional Management experience
      • Ability to collaborate within a team and across team environments.
      • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and/or accomplishing them simultaneously
      • Experience interfacing with a DoD customer
      • Active DoD Secret (or higher) clearance (with a background investigation within the past 6 years or enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).
      • Current Special Access Program (SAP) clearanceSalary Range: $152,100 - $228,100

        Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
