We are looking for a Manager, Connectivity Equipment Development to join our Thales IFE team in Melbourne, FL. Key Responsibilities: Manages the work and performance of the Connectivity LRU Electrical Design Engineering Teams. Interfaces with all the stakeholders, within and outside the organization to capture the needs for the team in terms of scope, budget and schedule Contributes to the development of the team product roadmap with all stakeholders Develops quality standards for company products and oversee the design, development and execution of the hardware testing strategy. Conceives and plan projects involving exploration of product and/or process problems, definitions and selection of new concepts and approaches to the design or development of new or improved products and processes Adopts state of the art processes, procedures and tools as needed to improve productivity, progress, quality such as defect containment and technical debt reduction. Assures the technical excellence and quality requirements of tasks assigned to individuals in his/her department are clearly defined, executed and delivered Identifies and mitigate risks to minimize the impact to project /program schedule and cost Uses prior project and technical management experience to lead and mentor the team Participates in comprehensive technical design reviews with engineering teams and manufacturing partners to confirm that design parameters, performances, cost and manufacturability requirements have been met. Ensures consistency of development activity and deliverables from internal and external resources, including adherence to Thales process and procedures Supports staffing exercises to make sure the right skills are within the team. Provides necessary physical resources and services to support requirements of multiple programs/products Conducts performance reviews regularly to ensure the growth of the hardware development engineers Oversees and manages the technical performance of in-site/off-site contractors or independent consultants. Holds regular staff meetings with the team to keep all team members informed Prepares budget and training needs to obtain the necessary funding to support and develop team members technical and soft skills. Generates project/product estimates and schedules for new projects and proposal activities. Work with Quality team to ensure quality systems and processes are in place to achieve engineering success. Skills and Experience Required: Bachelor of Science/physics/electrical engineering degree with minimum 10 years of Experience; OR Master of Science/physics/electrical engineering degree with minimum 7 years of experience AND 5+ years of experience in higher mathematics, electronics, mechanics and circuit design Minimum 5 years of experience managing Direct Team Members with direct functional group responsibility Experience in industry standard embedded hardware design for Aerospace applications. Very good knowledge of all phases of hardware development lifecycle: requirements analysis, technical design, implementation, performance review, testing, and release Previous experience in avionics design, DO-254 documentation and working with a development team Previous experience in planning, implementing, and administering engineering programs and projects Experience using digital test equipment such as Oscilloscopes, Logic Analyzer, Emulator, Debuggers, etc. Experience using schematic capture or viewer (ORCAD, Mentor Graphics, PCAD, etc.) Preferred Qualifications: Practical hands-on design knowledge with Microprocessors (32/64-bit), Ethernet switching technologies and FPGA/ASIC based embedded digital designs. Knowledge of DO-254 hardware documentations is strongly desirable, recent hands-on knowledge is preferable Knowledge of wireless, RF, analog design, antenna design principals, design for EMI, and power electronics Familiar with embedded F/W design. DO-160 FAA certification and FCC certification experiences are highly desirable. Familiarity with Satellite communication knowledge is highly desirable Communicate with 3rd party suppliers or internal integrated product development team consisting of Electrical, PCB, Firmware, and mechanical engineers to designs and test complex high-speed embedded hardware. Ability to write the technical specification and design test verification documents to make sure the product meets the design/system/ customer requirements. Prepare the material and make presentations for formal design reviews and customer technical meetings. Knowledge of Linux machine administration, Perl scripting are desirable. Identifies and resolves potential problems before they occur, therefore minimizing the impact to schedule and cost. Work well in close collaboration with other engineering and non-engineering organizations such as: hardware engineering, test engineering, system software, system engineering, system integration and validation, operations, product engineering, project management, product line management and work package management. Ability to interact with a wide range of Customer groups, both internal and external Ability to communicate technical issues in an assertive and tactful manner Very good understanding of Lean and Agile methodologies and principals At Thales we provide CAREERS and not only jobs.
