Description Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has multiple
openings for Sr Principal Subsystems Engineers with experience in
subsystems design and analysis to join our team of qualified,
diverse individuals within our Vehicle Engineering Organization.
These roles are located in Melbourne, FL. In these roles,
candidates may be involved in multiple aspects in the development
of aircraft subsystems, such as design, analysis, requirements,
test data post processing, and working shipside to help
troubleshoot issues. These aircraft subsystems include, but are not
limited to, Environmental Control Systems, Liquid Cooling Systems,
Fuel Systems, Hydraulic Systems, Fire Protection, Secondary Power
Systems, Mechanical systems, Weapons Integration, Landing Gear
Systems and Crew Systems and Equipment Integration. Key
Responsibilities: Capable of working independently under general
supervision and as part of a large multi-disciplined team.
Tasking may include performing system related analysis in support
of the development of aircraft subsystems as well as the
integration of aircraft avionics and the installation of various
aircraft hardware. Analysis includes, but not limited to, subsystem
performance modeling, kinematic analysis, liquid cooling systems,
air cycle systems, fluid distribution systems, and compartment
temperature assessments as influenced by structural heat transfer
and compartment heat sources.
Tasking may include performing Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)
analysis in support of aircraft subsystem integration and heat
transfer modeling activities. May also include modeling fluid
systems to assess fluid velocities and heat transfer coefficients
over complex geometries.
Tasking may include responsible engineer activities, which include
all aspects of system/component design and development including
trade studies, layouts, architecture definition, system test &
verification, and troubleshooting. These activities may also
include participating on a subcontractor management team and will
act as the technical point of contact with suppliers for hardware
development, qualification, and procurement.
Tasking may include system level test planning, execution support,
verification, data processing, and troubleshooting.
Tasking may include system level evaluations to verify requirements
and ensure airworthiness criteria are met.
Tasking may include subsystem routing of transport elements
(hydraulic, ECS, Fuel) and/or electrical cable system lines.
Tasking may include crew station design, equipment payload
integration, secondary structure, rack design.
Tasking may include armament integration, field of view studies,
kinematic range of motion studies, weapons carriage hardware
Attend internal program, customer and/or supplier technical
exchange meetings and/or formal program milestone reviews to
provide and/or obtain progress status updates.

Basic Qualifications: The basic qualifications of the Sr. Principal
Mechanical Engineer are a Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM
discipline AND 9 years of engineering experience, OR Master's
degree AND 7 years of engineering experience.
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program
(SAP) clearance prior to the commencement of employment. Preferred
Qualifications: Have an active DoD Secret or higher clearance (with
a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or
currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).
Current/active Special Program Access (PAR/SAP).
Master's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with focus
on kinematics, thermodynamic, fluid mechanic and heat transfer
Experience with aircraft subsystem development, with requirements
definition, specification development, component analysis,
procurement, source selection, integration and test and
verification for advance aircraft.
Experience performing thermodynamic, fluid mechanic and/or heat
transfer analysis related to military/commercial aircraft and
Experience modeling fluid systems utilizing Amesim,
Matlab/Simulink, Thermal Desktop, and/or STAR-CCM+ software.
Experience using MSC ADAMS and/or NX Motion Simulation.
Experience using Siemens NX 3D modeling tools
Experience with the military airworthiness certification process
Experience interpreting component detail drawings, specifications,
installation drawings, and test procedures.
Experience in supporting pursuits and proposals, including
generating, reviewing, and approving technical proposals and
Demonstrated experience in leadership related to integrated product
teams, including supplier and customer (internal and external)
relations Salary Range: $98,700 USD - $148,100 USD Employees may be
eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual
bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as
allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice
President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term
