Principal Human Factors Engineer / Senior Principal Human Factors
Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals.
Position is located in Melbourne, Florida. The Human Systems
Integration team is seeking a Human Factors Engineer (HFE) to be
part of the team ensuring the development of aircraft hardware and
software systems are operable by US military flight and maintenance
crews. This position requires a strong background in Human Factors
/ Systems Engineering. Job responsibilities include model-based
capabilities and requirements development; design documentation
including interface specifications; software interface
design/development support; analyses and collaboration to
facilitate equipment selection, design and arrangement; user and
working group collaboration; compliance with specified sections of
MIL-STD-1472 & MIL-STD-1787; collaboration across IPTs; and
coordination with the customer and user community. Typical Duties
Can Include:
- Support model-based capabilities and requirement development
and verification planning to ensure Human Factors best practices
are applied, by utilizing specified sections of MIL-STD-1472,
MIL-STD-1787, MIL-STD-411, MIL-STD-3009, etc.
- Contributions to Human Factors Analyses, including but not
limited to: Task Analyses and Predictive Workload Analyses,
Usability studies, Workload, and Situational Awareness surveys
using both desktop tools and pilot-in-the-loop virtual
simulations.
- Contribute to ingress/egress studies, lighting evaluations,
display readability assessments, requirements mapping, and
interface definition studies to translate customer requirements
into hardware and software solutions.
- Support the development and execution of anthropometric
accommodation using lab mockups and on aircraft testing.
- Support the preparation, coordination and conduct of both
predictive and empirical workload analyses, as well as, usability
assessments.
- Conduct computer based (NX) and empirical accessibility
assessments from both an operator and maintainer perspective.
- Support virtual environment lab assessments to ensure operator
and maintainer accessibility compliance.
- Author/support the program documentation of the HFE processes
and products in a format consistent with US Military Data Item
Descriptions (e.g. Human Engineering Program Plan, Human
Engineering Design Approach Document - Operator, Human Engineering
Design Approach Document - Maintainer, Human Engineering Test Plan,
Human Engineering Test Report, et. Al).
- Cross-IPT Collaboration with designers, airworthiness, safety,
systems engineering and system test. Basic Qualifications:
- Principal Human Factors Engineer candidates should have at
least 5 years experience in a related field with a Bachelor's
Degree, or 3 years with a Master's degree; or a PhD.
- Senior Principal Human Factors Engineer candidates should have
at least 7 years experience in a related field with a Bachelor's
Degree, or 5 years with a Master's Degree; or 3 years with a
PhD.
- Familiarization with MIL-STD-1472, MIL-STD-1787, MIL-STD-411,
and/or MIL-STD-3009.
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret
clearance
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access
Program (SAP) clearance. Preferred Qualifications:
- An active DoD Secret (or higher) clearance (with a background
investigation within the past 6 years or enrolled into Continuous
Evaluation).
- Experience with model based system engineering (MBSE) processes
and tools.
- Experience developing, administering and analyzing Human
Factors questionnaires such as Usability, Workload, and Situational
Awareness.
- Experience conducting structured anthropometric evaluations and
design including lighting, and acoustics.
- The ability to clearly and accurately express engineering
findings orally and in written technical reports and
presentations.
- Familiar with the interpretation and application of systems
safety, personnel survivability, and habitability requirements to
system design.
- Proficiency delivering technical solutions/contributions to the
completion of project milestones under general supervision
- Experience with CAD Tools (NX and NX Jack Expertise
preferred)
- Experience with MATLAB or SIMULINK
- Experience with HFE program documents (HEPP, HEDAD-O,
HEDAD-M)
- Experience preparing Human Systems Interface Style Guides
- Experience developing Human Factors Airworthiness compliance
artifacts as it relates to Pilot in the Loop (PITL) integrated
testing.
- Understand systems and design thinking as well as HMI/HCI
design principles and practices. Salary Range: $87,600 USD -
$131,400 USD Salary Range 2: $108,600 USD - $163,000 USD Employees
may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as
well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in
Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term
