Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history.Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening within the System Integration, Test & Evaluation team for a Sr. Principal Instrumentation & Test Engineer to join our qualified, diverse individuals on a Priority Win Capture Program. This role will be part of the design, development, integration, configuration, and test of real-time Data Acquisition Systems (DAS) for advanced labs and test articles. This position will be based in Melbourne, FL.The person selected for this role will support development of instrumentation requirements, architectures, high level designs, and implementation plans. The selected candidate should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, and collaborative/team settings.Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with engineers from the SIT&E IPT, test pilots, and other program IPT engineers to develop and refine instrumentation and data requirements for advanced labs, ground, and flight test articles.
  • Support development of instrumentation architectures and plans to meet requirements.
  • Support development of data processing, storage, and access facilities/systems/tools
  • Interface with Model Based Test & Evaluation engineering to integrate Model Based Engineering principles into the instrumentation and test data management systems that aligns with our corporate and customer digital transformation initiatives.

    • Must have a Bachelor of Science degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) discipline with 9 years of related professional experience that includes a background in Flight Test Instrumentation OR a Master of Science degree in a STEM discipline AND 7 years of related professional experience that includes a background in Flight Test Instrumentation OR a PhD AND 4 years of related professional experience that includes a background in Flight Test Instrumentation
    • Ability to develop instrumentation architectures and high level designs to implement architectures
    • Experience working with Strain Gages, Accelerometers, Pressure Transducers, and other commonly used instrumentation sensors
    • Experience working with suppliers to spec out instrumentation systems, obtain supplier quotes and bill of materials
    • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain an active DoD Secret clearance prior to the commencement of employment
    • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access (SAP) prior to the commencement of employmentPreferred Qualifications:
      • Active in-scope Secret clearance with current or previous Special Program Access
      • Experience applying principles, methodologies, and technologies to the design and operations of test data processing and management with traditional and cloud-based storage
      • Electronics, Analog and Digital Communications, Digital Signal Processes, Computer Communication Networks, Embedded Systems
      • Experience using independent test equipment such oscilloscopes, waveform generators, and spectrum analyzers
      • Experience using IADS and TTCWare software applications
      • Experience post-test processing data from an IRIG-106 CH10 recording
      • Experience integrating, supporting, and maintaining Curtiss-Wright TTC Data Acquisitions Systems
      • Experience applying principles, methodologies, and technologies to the design and operations of flight and lab test instrumentation
      • Demonstrated ability to document architectural/design solutions clearly and concisely so that they can be incorporated into presentations to senior leadership or customer proposal submittals
      • Basic knowledge of data bus architectures MIL-STD-1553, IEEE-1394, ARINC-429, CAN, RS-232/422 Salary Range: $108,600 USD - $163,000 USD Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
