Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history. The successful candidate will manage the functional engineering activities of approximately ten Materials and Processes Engineers. The Section Manager is responsible for design product integrity, process adherence, staffing, training and tools. Specific responsibilities include materials and processing technical oversight, participation in the performance review process, management of personnel records and participation in corrective or disciplinary actions. Staffing responsibilities may include hiring, reduction in force actions, recruiting of personnel and working to ensure that materials engineers with the appropriate skills and experience are deployed. The ability to manage training opportunities and budget allocations, as well as participation in tool, process, and metric initiatives is required. Team engagement is a key focus. The ability to mentor, provide career guidance and coaching, and to lead others is required. As previously noted, the Section Manager will also perform materials engineering tasks, which will comprise the majority of the candidate's work statement, these may include but are not limited to the following: Analyzes, researches, designs and develops materials and their related fabrication and application processes to develop and optimize materials for use in engineering design of and/or application in structures, systems and subsystems. Applies principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop metallic, non-metallic and composite material and processing specifications, fabrication and assembly processes. Develops, analyzes and applies material properties and design allowables, processing processes and quality engineering specifications. Material analyses may include root cause and failure analysis of components, systems and subsystems, life predictions, and definition and requirement specifications. May review and approve subcontractor material processing procedures. This position may require travel, but will be permanently located in Melbourne, Florida. Active DoD Secret Clearance Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's or Master Degree in Metallurgy or Materials Science. Proven history of leadership Proficiency with TeamCenter or equivalent PLM software. Ability to generate CDRLs, hazardous material management program reports. Experience interfacing with a DoD customer. Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to collaborate within a team and across team environments Ability to prioritize and adjust tasks to accomplish the project result.
